MemberIQ vs StarChapter
MemberIQ vs StarChapter for a chamber of commerce
StarChapter has a large base of reviews (656 on Capterra, averaging 4.2), and its reviewers are split on whether it is good value. What its reviewers write about most is support, payments and price, so here they are, in StarChapter’s and its reviewers’ own words.
Why chambers look elsewhere
- A June 2026 reviewer (4 of 5) wrote that StarChapter’s "help desk can only be contacted electronically; they used to accept phone calls, but no longer do" — and, in the same review, that "the staff is great about responding within 24 hours to inquiries." StarChapter’s StarPay FAQ (posted in February 2018, so older than that review) says you can create support tickets in the admin area "or call our Ticket Administrators to create a support ticket on your behalf."1,2
- StarChapter’s payment service is StarPay, which its help page says replaces the payment gateway and merchant account a chapter has now. The same page says deposits take "2-3 days, plus 1 day if there is a banking holiday" and that a day’s transactions "are batched and deposited together." The same reviewer says they were initially unhappy to be "forced to join" StarPay, and that it "has actually worked well and is efficient."2,1
- Reviewers differ on value. "StarChapter is inexpensive, and you get what you pay for" (a chief operating officer, 2 of 5). "It does some things well but costs way too much for the service and does not continue developing and fixing issues" (a treasurer and electronic communications chair, 3 of 5). The June 2026 reviewer: "They’ve continued to raise the annual fee, and it seems a bit excessive now."3,1
- A 1-star review from July 2026 answers what the reviewer liked least: "Everything. The errors and the lack of support or care when we contact you to have things fixed." The same reviewer wrote that "the website functions seamlessly with the system" and "only the website works well."4
Where StarChapter is genuinely good
- A lower published subscription price. StarChapter lists its Essential, Growth, Advanced and Pro plans (up to 150, 300, 600 and 1,200 members) at $119, $160, $224 and $279 a month when paid annually ($130 to $305 when paid monthly), each with a setup fee of $1,169 to $2,635. Above 1,200 members its Enterprise plan starts at $352 a month paid annually, with a setup fee from $3,041. Its pricing page adds: "Other usages and functionality limits apply."5
- Price for a small organization: "This software provided the critical software for our small professional organization at a reasonable price" (a treasurer, 5 of 5).3
- Fast written support: replies "within 24 hours", in a June 2026 review.1
- A large base of reviews: 656 on Capterra, averaging 4.2.3
